Skills USA 2018 Corpus Christi

Texas AWI is always proud to be a part of the Skills USA competitions held in Corpus Christi, TX Annually, held on April 6th & 7th.  This marks the 20th year that TAWI has participated in offering scholarships to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of the cabinet making competition.  We are proud to support students and promote the learning of trades.

Below is the outline of scholarships to be awarded:

• 1st Place – $1,500 Scholarship and $1,500 in travel expenses to travel to Skills USA National event
• 2nd Place – $1,000 Scholarship
• 3rd Place – $500 Scholarship

The above scholarships are for those who participate in the cabinetmaking competition.  Contestants are given a blueprint, from which they need to create a cut list. After their cut list is made the students  begin cutting and building their piece. Each student is judged on safety, neatness of workstation, operation of machinery and the final judging of the overall craftsmanship of their cabinet.
